Washington Labor & Industries Compliance
Washington L&I Compliance

The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) has specific requirements for first aid certification for employees, as follows:

-
First Aid Training: Employers must provide first aid training to employees who are designated to provide emergency medical care as part of their job duties. The training must cover basic first aid, including CPR and must be conducted by an instructor certified by a recognized organization such as the Health & Safety Institute. Affordable 1st Aid is a HSI approved training facility.
-
Certification: Employees who receive first aid training must obtain and maintain a valid first aid card or certificate. The card or certificate must be valid for at least three years.
-
Records: Employers must maintain a record of each employee's first aid training, including the date of training and the name of the instructor or training organization.
-
Refresher Training: Employers must ensure that employees with expiring first aid cards receive refresher training before their card expires to maintain a valid certification.
It's important to note that certain industries, such as construction and maritime, have specific first aid training requirements. Employers in these industries should consult the specific regulations to ensure they are in compliance with the first aid training requirements applicable to their workplace.
